The Fijiana 15s is the Fiji women's national rugby union team, representing Fiji in the 15-a-side format of rugby union. Known for their resilience, physicality, and flair, the team is a prominent force in women's rugby, particularly within the Oceania region.
In just two decades of international 15s rugby, the Fijiana 15s have transformed from regional underdogs into an internationally recognized force in women’s rugby — becoming one of the Pacific’s most inspiring success stories. The Fijiana 15s took their first steps on the international stage in 2005, competing in the Pacific Tri-Nations against Tonga and Samoa. About ten years later, they hosted Papua New Guinea in Suva and secured a convincing 37–10 win.
Early matches against top-tier nations like Japan and Hong Kong were tough learning experiences, but they marked the beginning of something special.By 2018, the Fijiana were making their mark in the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship, sweeping aside opponents with dominant performances — including a record 96–0 win over PNG and a 43–12 victory over Samoa. These regional successes laid the foundation for their ultimate goal: qualifying for the Rugby World Cup.
Fiji made its long-awaited World Cup debut in 2022 in New Zealand. Despite heavy defeats to England and France, it was their 21–17 win over South Africa that captured global attention. It was Fiji’s first-ever World Cup victory — and a bold statement that the island nation was ready to compete with the best. Before the tournament, the Fijiana also recorded their biggest-ever win, a staggering 152–0 rout of Papua New Guinea during the 2022 Oceania Championship. That same year, they hosted Canada and the Wahine Māori in Suva — their first home test matches in years.
In 2024, the Fijiana continued to build momentum with strong performances in the Oceania Championship in Brisbane and a home series against Japan — their first home tests since 2022. These fixtures gave local fans a rare chance to witness their heroes live and offered the team valuable cohesion on home soil.
The pinnacle of 2025 so far has been the first-ever home test against the Wallaroos (Australia), held at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. While the 43–7 loss was a tough result, the occasion itself was historic — the fourth meeting between the two sides and the first hosted in Fiji. It was a night of celebration, resilience, and reflection on how far the Fijiana 15s have come.
Under the leadership of dedicated coaches and the unwavering support of fans, the Fijiana 15s continue to inspire a new generation of women in sport.
Their journey is not just about wins and losses — it’s about pride, courage, and identity, carried into every match.
As they prepare for more test fixtures and the upcoming Women’s Rugby World Cup in England, one thing is certain:
The Fijiana 15s are no longer just participants — they are pioneers.
