Flying Fijians

The Flying Fijians represent Fiji in men’s international rugby union and are renowned for their electrifying style of play, characterised by flair, agility, and physicality. Rugby union is the national sport of Fiji, and the Flying Fijians are a source of immense pride for the nation.
The team played its first international match in 1924 and has since participated in 9 out of 10 Rugby World Cups, reaching the quarterfinals in 1987, 2007, and 2023. Over the years, the Flying Fijians have secured victories against major rugby nations, including Wales, Scotland, Australia, Italy, Argentina, and England.
They also compete in the Pacific Nations Cup, facing off against regional rivals such as Tonga, Samoa, and Australia A.
The Flying Fijians are world-renowned for their unpredictable, fast-paced rugby, exceptional offloads in contact, and broken-field running. They combine physical dominance at the breakdown with world-class backline creativity.
Before each match, the team performs the ‘Cibi’, a traditional Fijian war dance, to showcase their heritage and inspire pride while also signaling their intent to opponents. The Flying Fijians are more than just a team—they embody the spirit, resilience, and unity of the Fijian people.
Many players feature in top-tier professional leagues such as France’s Top 14, the UK’s Gallagher Premiership, and Super Rugby. The Flying Fijians are no longer underdogs. With better resources, increased international exposure, and a growing professional domestic base, Fiji is well on its way to becoming a permanent force in the top tier of world rugby.
