MATCH REPORT – FIJIANA DRUA V BRUMBIES

The Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua made a winning start in the Super W Championship, beating Brumbies 12-7 in the season opener at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

The visitors started the match on a high note and mounted pressure on the Fijiana Drua defense.

With an opportunity coming into their hands, Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua winger Adita Miliana broke the defense and gained territory possession for the hosts. She was perfect in delivering the final pass, which saw Lavenia Tinai scoring the first try on her debut.

Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua had a slender of 7-nil after the first 40 minutes.

With a little crowd support, Fijiana Drua managed to get set pieces right and remained in their opponents’ half before winger Laisani Moceisawana busted her way for their second try.

Brumbies, which had 11 players on debut managed to pull a try back through Grace Kemp.

Head Coach Inoke Male said the result would have been different if his team was allowed to play without start-stop.

Male said “We had a lot of start-stop which distracted our plan but it is always good to come out with a win in the first game of the season.

There are a lot of takings from this game and we need to go to the drawing board and polish it up before our second match against Melbourne Rebels.”

Captain Bitila Tawake thanked Brumbies for giving them a good game and said that her players need to keep on working hard if they are to win the Super W this year.

The Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua faces Melbourne Rebels at HFC Bank Stadium next weekend.
