Fijiana Drua to face Queensland Reds in the Super W final

The Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua is set to face Queensland Reds in the Super W final on Saturday.

After three consecutive losses in the round-robin, Fijiana Drua turned out to be a different team when they took unbeaten Waratahs in the semifinal.

The Drua came away with a 20-17 win at Concord Oval, putting on a brave performance against much-fancied Tahs till the final whistle.

Waratahs started the match strongly scoring three unanswered tries through Desiree Miller, Maya Stewart and Adiana Talakai. They led 17 nil.

Prop Siteri Rasolea opened Fijiana’s scoreboard with a try in the 22nd minute after picking the ball from the base of the ruck. It was converted by Luisa Tisolo to make it 17-7. Vani Arei narrowed the gap moments later, before the half-time hooter.

Fijiana Drua found strength in its defense, not giving any space for the Tahs to extend the lead.

The Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua built up on its momentum and put pressure on the Waratahs to win a penalty in the 42nd minute.

Tisolo made no mistake with that kick knowing the Drua were in for a tight match.

Vani Arei continued individual brilliance in the 69th minute dotting down for a runaway try to put Drua in the lead.

The Waratahs had the opportunity and momentum in the final minutes before the tide shifted into Fijiana Drua’s way.

Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua takes on Queensland Reds, 6.45pm at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Saturday.
