Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union

Ratu Navula principal Setareki Merekula replaced Napolioni Silatolu as the Fiji Secondary School President after a close number of votes at the FSSRU AGM last Friday. Ratu Navula was the former president of West two Zone.

Of the three nominees for President, Merekula had 23 votes, Silatou 22 and Mr Colati Ledua 5. Waisake Tuicakau retained his position as secretary and Viliame Saumaka as treasurer. Master Biu Colati replaced Elemaca Ravulo as the VP development.

Their financials reported a net surplus of $20,660 from an income of $224,280 and expenses of $203,620. Most of their income comes from gate takings and an increase in sponsorship from Coca Cola from $16,000 in 2013 to $25,580 last year.

A number of issues were discussed which included the combining of West 1 and 2 and also for Tier 2 to phase out this year.

Plans for this year include the FSSRU sevens competition, the girls 7s tournament and the U18 girls inclusion in the Commonwealth Youth games. New Zealand has also shown interest in making a two test match tour of Fiji in September after their tour to Australia. The dates are yet to be confirmed.

Fiji Rugby Union CEO Radrodro Tabualevu attended the AGM to strengthen the ties between FRU and the secondary schools rugby and also present FRU’s visions.

FRU will now work closely with schools in training and educating the teachers to be able to produce a complete player on and off the field.
