Fiji Airways Fijian 7s Gears Up for Intense Competition at Coral Coast 7s

As the excitement continues to build around the upcoming McDonalds Coral Coast 7s, Fiji Airways Fijian 7s Head Coach Ben Gollings is anticipating a challenging three-day tournament ahead.

The win over the weekend in Levuka has added a boost to the team and has also provided enough game time for players.

Gollings said the significance of facing tough opponents, and the recent clash in Levuka was exactly the kind of test the team needed.

“The players had an opportunity to showcase their skills. The coaching staff carefully observed the team’s dynamics, identifying areas of strength and those that might need a bit more refining.”

Looking ahead to the Coral Coast 7s which begins on Thursday, Gollings said, “We don’t want the Coral Coast to just be a walkover, and the opposition, particularly the formidable Tabadamu side, is known for their tenacity on the field.

“It’s precisely this kind of competition that the team craves – a chance to be pushed to their limits, to be tested in a high-intensity environment.”

For the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team, the Coral Coast 7s serves as a platform for experimenting with different player combinations before the Perth 7s next week.

Gollings said that the focus is not solely on winning matches but on the development of a well-rounded and resilient team.

The Mens 7s team will be going in as Fiji Babas in Pool D with Tabadamu, Saunaka and SRS Tubarua Highlanders.

The Coral Coast 7s will be held from the 18th to the 20th of January 2024 at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.
