Development work continues

Fiji Rugby Union’s Rugby Development Officer, Alifereti Mocelutu conducted three courses last week for level 1 in 7s and 15s coaching and match officiating at Suvavou for the Train the Trainers program on Tuesday (5th), Tailevu Rugby Union on 7th and the Northland Rugby Union on 8th.

Development work continues

Modules covered for coaching were:

Unit 1 – game Knowledge

  • Module 1 – Understanding the game, its principles and coaching methodologies.
  • Module 2 – Applying the principles and skills to team performance.

Unit 2 – Planning

  • Module 3 – Practice planning
  • Module 4 – Laws of the game, modified games, risk management and role of the coach.

The focus were for coaches to understand the principles of Rugby on Attack and Defence and how it can be broken down into components of skills and how coaches identify coaching method and key coaching factors. The coaching process is very important for coaches when explaining and preparing session plans before training. So is demonstration, practice and observation and finally analysing and getting feedback from players to check their understanding.

Number of level 1 15s coaching (Northland) – 10 / match officiating – 9.
