The ANZ Marama Championship is the Womens Tier 1 competition which will have eight provincial teams battling it out on a weekly home and away basis in a round robin format before the semifinals and final.
The competition’s logo, inspired by the Cevuga (ginger flower) in full bloom, symbolizes players reaching the peak of their game. It reflects the championship’s ethos of ambition, diversity, and inclusivity. Teams such as Suva, Nadroga, Nadi, Yasawa, Tailevu, Namosi, Lautoka, and Naitasiri have been prominent participants, with Suva emerging as a dominant force, winning titles in recent years. The 2022 season saw Suva thrash Nadroga 35-14 in the opening round, while Nadi has excelled in the Under-19 category, retaining their title in 2023 with a 15-12 victory over Suva.
ANZ Fiji has come on Board to be the new sponsors of the Marama Championship for the next 3 years.
Beyond competition, the ANZ Marama Championship has been a transformative platform for women’s rugby in Fiji, empowering players and inspiring broader participation. ANZ’s sponsorship, announced on International Women’s Day in 2022, underscores its commitment to gender equality and community development through sport. The championship not only elevates the standard of women’s rugby but also serves as a talent pipeline for national selectors, with numerous players eyeing spots in the Fijiana 15s.
The competition also features promotion and relegation, with the bottom two teams dropping to the Ranadi Cup and the top Ranadi teams advancing to the Marama Championship, ensuring a dynamic and competitive structure.
