The HSBC World Rugby Sevens, now rebranded as HSBC SVNS consists of 7 tournaments held around the world, which features the world’s top men’s and women’s sevens teams competing for series points at each round, showcasing fast-paced, high-skill rugby. The event is governed by World Rugby with each individual tournament managed by the hosting Union and event organisers.
HSBC SVNS Series
The Men’s HSBC World Sevens Series
There are 12 core teams who participate in each round of the series. An overall champion is crowned at the end of the season based on points accumulated throughout the 7 events, from the opening round in Dubai in November to the final round in Los Angeles in May the following year.
In the 2024 promotion/relegation round, Kenya and Uruguay replaced relegated teams Canada and Samoa after winning the 2024 HSBC Sevens Challenger.
For the 2024-25 season, the series kicked off in Dubai on November 30-December 1, 2024, and includes seven regular-season events, concluding with a grand finale in Los Angeles on May 3-4, 2025.

The Women’s HSBC World Sevens Series
The HSBC Women’s Sevens Series, which is part of the HSBC SVNS, runs alongside the men’s tournament, featuring 12 core teams in each event.
The women’s sevens series tournaments are held at the same locations as the men’s, with six regular-season events leading up to a Grand Final. The women’s series showcases 12 core teams, and the top eight teams after the sixth round qualify for the Grand Final, where the champions are crowned.
The HSBC SVNS, gives leading rugby players across six continents the chance to experience global, elite level, high-performance sevens competition and coupled with the spike in interest after the Olympic Games, the series has sparked significant growth in the women’s game with increased appetite for broadcast, live streaming and social media.
South Africa were relegated from the 2024 Series and China earned promotion as a core team for 2025 after winning the 2024 HSBC Sevens Challenger in Krakow, Poland.
The season will build up to the World Championship event in Los Angeles, where the top eight men’s and women’s teams will compete for the title, and promotion/relegation playoffs will furthermore determine the 2026 lineup.
