Fijiana XV

The Vodafone Fijiana XV is Fiji’s national women’s 15s rugby team. Their journey in international rugby is a testament to the growth of women’s rugby in Fiji and the wider Pacific region.

The Early Years & Growth

In Fiji, women’s rugby has historically been overshadowed by the men’s version of the sport. Nevertheless, dedicated players have persistently pushed for acknowledgment despite having limited resources. The first official Fijiana XV team was formed in the early 2000s, marking the beginning of their rise on the international stage.


Fijiana first gained international exposure in the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship, a crucial event for their growth. As the sport gained traction within the country, so did the team’s ambitions, leading to their first Rugby World Cup qualification in 2021

Historic 2021 Rugby World Cup Debut

The most significant achievement for Fijiana XV occurred in 2021, when they secured their first ever qualification for the Rugby World Cup. Held in New Zealand, the tournament featured Fijiana competing against some of the top global teams, marking a new era for women’s rugby in Fiji.

The Fijian women’s rugby team made a significant impact on the global stage with their World Cup debut, demonstrating their ability to compete at the highest level.

Women’s Rugby World Cup

The Fiji Women’s Rugby team achieved a historic milestone by participating in the 2021 Rugby World Cup held in New Zealand, representing a significant advancement for women’s rugby in the Pacific region. In the face of tough competition, the Fijiana showcased their unique style and determination, securing a remarkable win over South Africa and affirming their rightful place in international rugby.


As the 2025 Rugby World Cup in England draws near, the team is focused on building their existing foundation. With a rising number of player, increased international exposure and improved development pathways, Fijiana is committed to making a more significant impact. The journey to England signifies not just another tournament but a reflection to the progress and passion driving women’s rugby in Fiji.


Their participation in 2025 will extend beyond mere competition—it will aim to inspire the upcoming generation of female athletes and showcasing the unique Fijian style of rugby on a global stage.

Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship

The Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship, organised by Oceania Rugby, is the premier women’s rugby union competition in the Oceania region. Established in 2016, it provides vast opportunity for national women’s teams to engage in regular competition, showcasing their skills and passion. The tournament also serves as a qualification pathway for major global events, such as the Women’s Rugby World Cup and the WXV competition.

The Fijiana XV team has excelled in this championship, winning several titles.

2016 : Champions

Defeating Papua New Guinea.

2018 : Champions

Defeating Papua New Guinea.

2022 : Champions

Defeating Papua New Guinea.

2023 : Runners up

Lost to Samoa by one point in the final

2024: Champions

Securing a 27-13 victory over Samoa in Brisbane, which earned them a direct qualification ticket to the 2025 Rugby World Cup. Both Fiji and runner-up Samoa also qualified for the WXV 3 division in Dubai later in 2024.

WXV 3 Tournament

The WXV 3 tournament is a global competition designed to provide teams like Fijiana with more international matches to develop and test their skills against top teams. With the establishment in 2023, the competition aims to improve competition for lower-ranked national teams and create a pathway for qualification for major events like the Rugby World Cup.

After winning the Oceania Championship, Fijiana secured their spot in the tournament again, using it as a crucial stepping stone towards the 2025 Rugby World Cup.

2022 : September

In preparation for their inaugural Rugby World Cup appearance, Fijiana hosted two significant test matches in Suva:

2024: July

Fijiana achieved their first-ever victory over Japan with a 24-15 win at Churchill Park in Lautoka, showcasing their growth and potential.

2024: June

Fijiana played against the Australian Wallaroos at Allianz Stadium in Sydney, marking another milestone in their test match history.

2024: September

Test matches against Scotland and Netherlands.

With their Oceania title in hand and a World Cup ticket secured, the Fijiana XV are preparing to take on the world once again in England 2025.
