The Autumn Internationals, often referred to as November Internationals or end-of-
year tests, consist of a series of international rugby union matches predominantly
held in the Northern Hemisphere during November, in years when the Rugby World
Cup is not taking place. These matches typically involve European teams hosting
teams from the Southern Hemisphere.
Teams from Europe, particularly those in the Six Nations—namely England, Ireland,
Scotland, Wales, France, and Italy—often welcome visiting teams from the
Southern Hemisphere, which includes powerhouse nations such as South Africa,
New Zealand, Australia, and Argentina. Additionally, countries like Fiji, Japan, or
Georgia may also be involved, depending on the specific year and scheduling
arrangements. These matches provide a vital opportunity for teams to challenge
themselves against international rivals, enhance their strategies, and gear up for
upcoming events like the Rugby World Cup or the British & Irish Lions tours.
Fiji’s 2024 Autumn Internationals record was 2 wins and 2 losses, reflecting their
growing competitiveness. Ranked 10th in the world at the time (having briefly
reached 9th earlier in the year), they demonstrated their ability to challenge
established teams like Wales while still facing difficulties against top sides like
Ireland and Scotland. The inclusion of overseas stars like Semi Radradra, Waisea
Nayacalevu, and Josua Tuisova, alongside Olympic Sevens medalists,
strengthened their squad significantly compared to previous tours.
