Fijiana XV

Fijiana XV

The Vodafone Fijiana XV is Fiji’s national women’s 15s rugby team. Their journey
in international rugby is a testament to the growth of women’s rugby in Fiji and the
wider Pacific region.
The Early Years & Growth
In Fiji, women’s rugby has historically been overshadowed by the men’s version of
the sport. Nevertheless, dedicated players have persistently pushed for
acknowledgment despite having limited resources. The first official Fijiana XV team
was formed in the early 2000s, marking the beginning of their rise on the
international stage.
Fijiana first gained international exposure in the Oceania Rugby Women’s
Championship, a crucial event for their growth. As the sport gained traction within
the country, so did the team’s ambitions, leading to their first Rugby World Cup
qualification in 2021.
Historic 2021 Rugby World Cup Debut
The most significant achievement for Fijiana XV occurred in 2021, when they
secured their first ever qualification for the Rugby World Cup. Held in New Zealand,
the tournament featured Fijiana competing against some of the top global teams,
marking a new era for women’s rugby in Fiji.
First RWC triumph: A captivating 21-17 win against South Africa, highlighting
Fijiana’s offensive strength and resilience.
Competitive display: Although facing defeats against England and France, the team
acquired essential experience that influenced their development moving forward.
The Fijian women’s rugby team made a significant impact on the global stage with
their World Cup debut, demonstrating their ability to compete at the highest level.
