Pacific Challenge to include a community Legacy Programme

The FRU has developed a legacy programme as a tool to increase participation for players, coaches, match officials and volunteers. It will also help raise the profile of the game especially for women’s rugby.

“This programme will be used during the World Rugby Pacific Challenge next month. It aims to improve the quality of the rugby experience for all participants, to increase awareness of women’s rugby, and to create a focus on promoting Fiji and a lasting rugby union legacy for the community,” said FRU Development Manager Mr Sale Sorovaki

He said FRU want fans and participants to enjoy rugby entertainment and the cultural elements of Fiji at the same time.

“Given the strength and depth of volunteering in the rugby community it is important to recognize the contribution of existing volunteers and fans,” he added.

This programme is hoping to reward the abundance of hard work at grassroots level by making them being part of the game.

Fiji Rugby Union wants to invite new potential players, volunteers and spectators to the game and promote legacy and involvement in the sport after the Pacific Challenge 2015 has finished.

While the program will inspire both participation and legacy this year it is also aimed at retained former rugby greats who have moved on in life.

FRU is committed to the programme to ensure that the legacy activities benefit residents and businesses alike long after tournaments (both domestic and locally hosted international events) have ended.
